Pilot keeps going out
Usually a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot tube or a draft. On some tanks the flame arrestor screen is clogged with lint and dust.
No hot water, lukewarm showers or a tank that drips? Able Pro finds the real cause and fixes gas and electric hot water tanks, with technicians on call 24/7.
No heat, no hot water or a gas smell? Call any time, day or night.
When the hot water stops, it rarely means the whole tank is finished. Many failures come down to one part: a thermocouple, a hot surface igniter, a gas control valve, an electric element, a thermostat or a power-vent fan. Good hot water tank repair starts with finding which one, quickly and accurately.
Our technicians test before they replace. On a gas tank that means checking the pilot, flame, gas pressure, venting and safety switches. On an electric tank it means checking the breaker, the high-limit reset, both elements and both thermostats with a meter.
If the tank itself is leaking, there is no honest repair for that, and we will tell you so. Otherwise, you get a clear explanation and a quote before we fix it.
These are the calls we take most often, and what is usually behind them.
Usually a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot tube or a draft. On some tanks the flame arrestor screen is clogged with lint and dust.
A tripped high-limit, a burned-out element or a failed thermostat are the usual suspects, and all are testable.
Blocked vent terminations, a failed pressure switch or a worn fan motor can stop the burner from lighting at all.
Leaks from fittings, the drain valve or the relief valve are repairable. Water from inside the tank jacket usually is not.
A broken dip tube mixes cold water into the hot outlet. Sediment, a bad element or an undersized tank also shorten showers.
Rumbling points to sediment, while hissing or sizzling can mean water dripping onto the burner. Both need checking.
Reach us at (236) 222-2222 or online. For leaks and no hot water, our team is on call 24/7.
We test the controls, burner or elements and venting to pinpoint the failed part.
You approve a clear price, then we repair it, often with parts we carry on the truck.
We run a full heating cycle, check for leaks and make sure hot water reaches your taps.
Our technicians are on call 24/7, because a leaking tank at midnight cannot wait for Monday.
We measure and test before swapping parts, so you pay for the fix you actually need.
If a repair would be money thrown at a failing tank, we tell you and explain the alternatives.
We work cleanly, protect the floor around the tank and leave the space as we found it.
Still unsure? Call (236) 222-2222 and talk it through with us.
On a gas tank, the pilot may be out because of a failed thermocouple, or the igniter or gas valve may have failed. On an electric tank, check the breaker and the reset button behind the upper access panel. If it trips again, there is an underlying fault that needs testing.
Following the instructions on the tank label is generally fine. If the pilot will not stay lit, you smell gas, or you see scorch marks around the burner door, stop and call a technician. Those signs point to a problem that relighting will not solve.
The relief valve opens when temperature or pressure gets too high. A drip can mean the valve is worn, or that pressure is building because there is no working expansion tank. Never cap or plug the discharge line. We find the cause and fix it.
If the water comes from a fitting, the drain valve or the relief valve, yes. If it comes from the tank body itself, the inner shell has corroded through and the tank needs replacing.
That smell usually comes from bacteria reacting with the magnesium anode rod. Replacing it with a different anode type and flushing the tank typically solves it. It is more common on well water but can happen anywhere.
