Blowing cool air on heat
Often a reversing valve, low refrigerant, a defrost fault or an outdoor fan that has stopped turning.
Blowing cold air, iced over, leaking or not starting at all? Able Pro technicians find the real cause and fix it properly, with 24/7 emergency service.
No heat, no hot water or a gas smell? Call any time, day or night.
A heat pump is a refrigeration system, an electrical system and an air system working together, so the same symptom can have very different causes. Cold air from the vents might be a normal defrost cycle, a stuck reversing valve, a refrigerant leak or a failed outdoor fan. Swapping parts until something works wastes your money. Our heat pump repair visits begin with measurements: pressures, temperatures, voltages and airflow.
Once we know what failed and why, we explain it in plain language and give you a quote before any repair begins. If the unit is older and the repair is major, we will also tell you honestly whether fixing it is still a sensible use of your money.
We repair central ducted heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, multi-zone systems and dual fuel setups, including units installed by other companies.
These are the calls we get most often, especially during cold snaps and heat waves.
Often a reversing valve, low refrigerant, a defrost fault or an outdoor fan that has stopped turning.
Ice that never clears points to a failed defrost sensor or board, poor drainage or low charge.
Tripped breakers, failed capacitors, burned contactors or control board faults can all stop a system cold.
Clogged condensate lines, failed pumps or a head mounted out of level can drip onto floors and walls.
Worn fan bearings, loose panels or a struggling compressor need attention before they cause bigger damage.
Ductless systems report faults with codes. We read them, confirm the cause with tests and repair it.
Call or book online and describe what is happening, including any error codes or noises.
The technician checks electrical, refrigerant and airflow readings to pinpoint the fault.
You see the repair cost in writing and decide how to proceed before we start.
We make the repair, run the system in both modes and confirm it is operating as it should.
No heat on a freezing night is an emergency, and our technicians are on call at any hour.
We test before we replace, so you pay to fix the actual problem.
You approve the cost before any repair begins, with no surprises on the invoice.
If replacement makes more sense, we explain why and let you decide.

During defrost, a heat pump briefly reverses and the air can feel cool for a few minutes, which is normal. If cool air continues, the cause may be low refrigerant, a stuck reversing valve, a failed outdoor fan or backup heat that is not engaging. A technician needs to test the system to tell which.
A light frost that clears every so often is normal. A unit encased in ice will stop heating and can damage the fan and coil. Switch it to emergency or backup heat if you have it, and call us rather than chipping at the ice.
Often, yes. We locate the leak with electronic detection, bubble tests or nitrogen pressure, repair it, then evacuate and recharge to the manufacturer's specification. Topping up without fixing the leak only delays the next breakdown.
Age, the cost of the repair, the refrigerant type and how well the system has kept you comfortable all factor in. A capacitor on a younger unit is an easy repair. A failed compressor on an old unit is a different conversation, and we will lay out both options clearly.
We repair most major ductless brands. Some proprietary parts need to be ordered, and we will tell you how long that is likely to take before you approve the work.
