Panel and service upgrades
Moving from 100 to 200 amps, or replacing a full or outdated panel, to make room for new loads.
Adding a heat pump, an EV charger or a new kitchen puts real demand on an older panel. We plan the circuits, explain the load and get your home ready for the equipment you want.
No heat, no hot water or a gas smell? Call any time, day or night.
Many Metro Vancouver houses built before the 1990s were wired with a 100 amp service, sized for gas heat, a range and a dryer. Today the same homes are adding heat pumps, induction cooktops, hot tubs and Level 2 EV chargers. Our residential electrical services focus on making that transition safe and sensible, so new equipment has the capacity and protection it needs.
Because Able Pro also installs heating, cooling and water heating equipment, we look at electrical work in context. Before recommending a panel upgrade, we look at what is already connected, what you plan to add and whether load management could avoid a bigger service. You get a straightforward explanation, a clear quote and information about any permit and inspection the job requires.
Most of our electrical calls start with a homeowner planning an upgrade somewhere else in the house.
Moving from 100 to 200 amps, or replacing a full or outdated panel, to make room for new loads.
A dedicated 240 volt circuit, outdoor disconnect and correctly sized breaker for the outdoor unit and any backup heat strips.
Wiring for Level 2 chargers in garages and driveways, including load management options when panel space is tight.
Circuits for heat pump water heaters and electric tanks, plus power for condensing tankless units and recirculation pumps.
Breakers that trip repeatedly are a warning sign of overload, a failing appliance or a wiring fault worth tracing.
Dedicated kitchen, laundry and bathroom circuits with the GFCI and AFCI protection that current rules expect.
Tell us what you want to add now and in the next few years so the work is not done twice.
We examine the service, the existing loads and the wiring route for each new circuit.
You receive a clear written quote and we coordinate timing with any HVAC or water heater install.
Circuits are installed, labelled and tested, the panel directory is updated and the area is cleaned up.
When we install your heat pump or water heater too, the wiring and equipment are planned together.
We look at real capacity before suggesting an upgrade, which can save you an unnecessary service change.
Amps, breakers and load calculations explained in normal language, with no pressure.

Not always. Many heat pumps run comfortably on a 100 amp service if the rest of the load allows it. A load calculation shows whether there is room, and sometimes swapping electric backup heat for a smaller size or adding load management avoids a service upgrade.
Often yes, with planning. Both are large loads, so we look at total capacity and may suggest an energy management device that pauses charging when the house is drawing heavily. That approach is common in older Metro Vancouver homes.
Repeated trips usually mean an overloaded circuit, a failing appliance or a wiring fault. Resetting it again and again is not a fix. If you smell burning or see scorching at the panel or an outlet, turn off the circuit and call us right away.
Most new circuits, panel changes and service upgrades in BC require a permit and inspection. We explain what applies to your job when we quote it so there are no surprises later.
We can help with in-suite work such as circuits for a ductless heat pump, but condo electrical changes usually need strata approval. We will tell you what information your strata is likely to ask for.
