Pilot will not stay lit
Usually a dirty or weak thermocouple or thermopile, sometimes a blocked pilot orifice or draft issue.
A gas fireplace should light on the first try, burn with a steady flame and vent safely outdoors. We install, repair and service them so they stay that way.
No heat, no hot water or a gas smell? Call any time, day or night.
In a wet Lower Mainland winter, a gas fireplace is often the warmest spot in the house, and on mild days it can heat a living area without running the furnace. Our gas fireplace services cover the whole life of the appliance: choosing and installing a new unit or insert, fixing ignition and flame problems, and the yearly cleaning and safety check that keeps it reliable.
Gas fireplaces combine a burner, a sealed glass front, a venting system and a set of controls that can range from a simple millivolt valve to an electronic module with a remote. We work on all of these and explain what we find in plain terms. If a unit is near the end of its life, we tell you honestly and lay out repair and replacement options side by side.
Fireplaces give plenty of warning before they fail completely.
Usually a dirty or weak thermocouple or thermopile, sometimes a blocked pilot orifice or draft issue.
Dark soot suggests incomplete combustion; a white haze is normal residue that still needs proper cleaning.
An electronic igniter that sparks but never lights points to gas supply, sensor or module problems.
An insert can turn a cold wood-burning or old gas fireplace into an efficient sealed heat source.
Receiver batteries, a failed remote or a faulty control board can all leave the fire unresponsive.
Annual checks catch loose glass gaskets, vent problems and gas leaks before they become dangerous.
Call or book online and tell us the make, model if you know it, and what the fireplace is doing.
We check ignition, flame, venting and gas pressure so the diagnosis is based on facts.
You get a clear price for repair, service or replacement before any parts are ordered.
We complete the work, test a full burn cycle and leave the hearth area clean.
We work on furnaces, boilers and water heaters every day, so burners, valves and venting are familiar ground.
We tell you whether a repair makes sense or whether an older unit is not worth more money.
Drop cloths down, glass cleaned and no soot left on your carpet.
If you smell gas, leave the house, call FortisBC, then call us any time of day for repairs.

Once a year, ideally in late summer or early fall before heavy use. Annual service cleans the burner and pilot, checks the venting and glass seal and confirms there are no gas leaks.
A light burning-dust smell for the first few minutes is common as dust burns off. A strong or lasting odour, soot on the glass or any smell of gas is not normal, and you should shut it off and call for service.
Usually, yes. A gas insert fits into the existing firebox and vents through a liner in the chimney. We check the chimney and gas line route first to make sure the conversion is practical.
Many newer fireplaces use intermittent ignition, so there is no standing pilot. Older units with a standing pilot can be shut off for summer to save gas, though some owners leave them on to keep moisture out of the firebox.
Fireplace glass can get hot enough to cause serious burns, especially for small children. Newer units come with a safety screen, and we can advise on adding one to an older fireplace.
