Air Conditioning Installation Done Properly

Adding air conditioning to a home that has never had it takes more than bolting a condenser to a pad. We plan sizing, placement, drainage and power so it works for years.

  • Load-based sizing
  • Central or ductless

Overview

Planning an air conditioning installation

Most cooling problems we see in newer installs were baked in on day one: a unit too big for the house, a line set run too long, a condensate drain with no slope, or a condenser jammed beside a bedroom window. Good air conditioning installation avoids all of that with an hour of honest planning before any equipment is ordered.

We start by working out how much heat your home actually gains on a hot day, based on floor area, insulation, window size and which way the house faces. Then we look at your ductwork, if you have it, your electrical panel and the best spot for the outdoor unit. The result is a written quote for a system that fits your house, whether that is central air on your furnace, a ducted heat pump or a ductless mini-split.

What to know

Installation options we offer

The right choice depends mostly on whether you have ducts and how you heat the house.

01

Central AC on a furnace

An evaporator coil is added above your furnace and connected to an outdoor condenser. Uses your existing ducts and thermostat.

02

Ducted heat pump

Installs like central air but also heats. A popular choice when the furnace is aging or you want to cut gas use.

03

Single-zone ductless

One indoor head and one outdoor unit. A neat fix for a hot top floor, a home office or a bedroom above the garage.

04

Multi-zone ductless

Several heads on one outdoor unit, each with its own control. Suits homes with baseboard or hot water heat.

05

Smart controls

Wi-Fi thermostats or app control let you pre-cool the house before a heat warning or adjust it from work.

06

Electrical work

New dedicated circuits, outdoor disconnects and, where needed, panel changes handled as part of the same project.

Included

What a proper install includes

  • Heat gain calculation for your actual home
  • Level pad or wall bracket for the outdoor unit
  • Insulated copper line set, sealed where it enters the house
  • Nitrogen pressure test and deep vacuum before charging
  • Sloped condensate drain or pump where gravity will not work
  • Dedicated circuit and weatherproof disconnect
  • Start-up readings recorded for future comparison
  • Walkthrough of the controls and filter care
How it works

Our installation process

  1. 1

    In-home assessment

We measure rooms, look at ducts, attic access, panel capacity and outdoor placement, and ask what comfort problems bother you.

  2. 2

    Written quote

You receive clear options with equipment details, so you can compare efficiency, noise level and features side by side.

  3. 3

    Installation day

Most single systems take a day. We protect floors, keep the work area tidy and explain anything unexpected before acting.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We commission the system, check the temperature drop and refrigerant readings and show you how to run it efficiently.

Why Able Pro

Why install with Able Pro

Sized, not guessed

We size by calculation rather than by square footage rules of thumb, which avoids short cycling and clammy rooms.

Neighbour-friendly placement

We think about sound, airflow clearances and setbacks before choosing where the condenser sits.

Rebate guidance

If a heat pump qualifies for current programs, we help with the paperwork and confirm what applies.

Homes, not offices

Residential work is all we do, so the crew is used to working around families, pets and finished basements.

Questions

Questions homeowners ask us

Still unsure? Call (236) 222-2222 and talk it through with us.

How long does air conditioning installation take?

A central AC or ducted heat pump on an existing furnace is usually a one day job. Ductless systems with several heads, or projects that need electrical upgrades, can take two or three days.

Do I need a permit for a new air conditioner?

In most Metro Vancouver municipalities, yes, for the electrical work and sometimes for the mechanical work as well. Rules differ between cities, so we explain what applies to your project as part of the quote.

What size air conditioner does my house need?

It depends on far more than square footage. Window area, insulation, ceiling height and sun exposure all change the answer. We calculate it during the assessment rather than guess.

Where should the outdoor unit go?

Somewhere with good airflow, out of the way of dryer vents and roof runoff, and not right under a bedroom window. We also check local setback and noise bylaws, which vary by city.

Can I install AC if my furnace is old?

You can, but it is worth pausing. The new coil has to match the furnace blower, and if the furnace will need replacing soon, a heat pump with a new air handler or furnace may be smarter. We will show you both paths.
