Failed ignition
Worn spark electrodes, a weak igniter or a dirty flame rod stop the boiler from proving flame.
An error code on the display and a cold house. We diagnose lockouts on modern condensing and combi boilers and get the heat back on.
No heat, no hot water or a gas smell? Call any time, day or night.
Modern condensing boilers protect themselves. When something is wrong, they lock out and show a code rather than running unsafely. That is good for safety, but frustrating when it happens on a cold evening. Most of the boiler repair calls we take in Burnaby start exactly this way: a blinking display, a reset that works for an hour, then another lockout.
The code is a clue, not a diagnosis. An ignition failure code can mean a worn electrode, a dirty flame sensor, low gas pressure, a blocked condensate trap or a vent problem. Able Pro tests each possibility, fixes the real cause, and explains it before any work begins. Call (236) 222-2222 any time.
Behind every error code is a handful of likely causes.
Worn spark electrodes, a weak igniter or a dirty flame rod stop the boiler from proving flame.
A clogged trap or frozen line backs water up and the boiler shuts itself down.
A blocked termination or failed pressure switch prevents safe venting and triggers a lockout.
Low flow, a failed pump or a bad temperature sensor can all read as overheating.
Modern boilers refuse to fire below a minimum pressure. We find out why it dropped.
A noisy or slow inducer fan can stop the boiler from starting its ignition sequence.
Townhomes around Brentwood, Metrotown and Edmonds often have combis in closets, and condensate and vent problems are the usual culprits there. On Burnaby Mountain at UniverCity, colder nights mean longer run times and more strain on ignition parts.
In detached homes across Capitol Hill, Burnaby Heights and the South Slope, we see a mix of modern boilers and older units, and we repair both.
We pull stored fault codes to see what has been happening, not just the latest error.
We measure gas pressure, flame signal, venting and flow to narrow down the cause.
You approve the price, and we replace or clean the part that failed.
We run heating and hot water cycles to confirm the lockout does not come back.
Lockouts happen at night and on holidays, and we answer then too.
We measure before we replace, so you do not pay for parts you did not need.
You agree to the cost before we start the repair.
We clean up after ourselves, even in a tight townhome closet.
Still unsure? Call (236) 222-2222 and talk it through with us.
Stop resetting after one or two tries. Repeated resets can mask a venting or gas problem and may flood the burner. Note the code and call us so we can test the cause.
Condensate lines that run near exterior walls can freeze, and ice can build at the vent termination. Either one shuts the boiler down. We clear the blockage and suggest a fix so it does not happen again.
If the boiler is still producing hot water normally and there are no smells, alarms or soot, it is generally fine to use while you wait. If the CO alarm sounds, leave the house and call from outside.
We work on a wide range of residential boilers. If a specific part has to be ordered, we will tell you and keep you as comfortable as possible in the meantime.
