Overview

How furnace rebates in BC work today

Furnace rebates in BC have shifted over the past few years. FortisBC has offered rebates for high-efficiency natural gas furnaces at various times, but provincial programs now put most of their support behind heat pumps rather than gas-only equipment. In practice, the strongest incentives for a furnace replacement often come when you pair the new furnace with a heat pump in a dual fuel setup, or when you replace the furnace with a heat pump altogether.

That does not mean a new gas furnace is the wrong choice for every home. It means the rebate picture is worth checking before you decide. When Able Pro quotes a furnace replacement, we show you the options side by side: a high-efficiency furnace, a dual fuel system and an all-electric heat pump, along with the programs currently open for each. Amounts and rules change, approval belongs to each program, and we help you with the forms.

Questions

Questions homeowners ask us

Still unsure? Call (236) 222-2222 and talk it through with us.

Are there rebates for a new gas furnace in BC?

FortisBC has offered rebates on qualifying high-efficiency furnaces at times, but offers change and provincial programs focus mostly on heat pumps. We confirm current options for your home during the quote.

Why are heat pumps favoured over furnaces for rebates?

Provincial and federal programs aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions from home heating. Heat pumps use electricity, which in BC comes mostly from hydro power, so they receive more support.

Can I get a rebate if I keep my furnace and add a heat pump?

Dual fuel conversions have qualified under several utility and provincial offers. We check what is currently open.

My furnace is very old. Should I replace it before winter?

If it has a cracked heat exchanger, repeated failures or high running costs, planning a replacement before cold weather is wise. We inspect it and give you an honest recommendation.

How much can I get back on a furnace upgrade?

It depends on the equipment, your current fuel and which programs are open at the time. We confirm amounts with you during the quote.
